2000!

I finally got to 2000 today! As you can see from the snow on the side of the road, it wasn't exactly ideal riding conditions but it wasn't too cold and it seemed like the weather was going to get worse as we headed towards Christmas.

I thought it was a good goal for the year - challenging, but not impossible. I'm not sure what my goal next year will be but I think it is going to be a little less riding and  more running and swimming.

1990

A short ride yesterday and we are 10 miles from the finish line. It won't happen today because we have a rain/snow mix.

I did a quick back-of-the-envelope calculation yesterday to figure out how many days I could have ridden in 2010. I was out of town a lot this year. Between business and vacation, I spent about 100 days away from home. There are probably 50 or so days a year where the weather is not amenable to riding (very cold, icy and very rainy days). That leaves us with about 215 or so days in 2010 that I could have ridden. I probably could have ridden a bit more, but not a whole lot.

I'll need to start thinking about my goal for 2011.

1977

I braved the temps and went out and rode today at lunch. My desktop temperature widget said it was 34 degrees but there was no wind and the sun was out, so it wasn't too bad. I think it was probably closer to 40 out there. My feet were cold, but otherwise, it was nice, easy 15 mile ride. Just 23 miles to go.

Factors

There are a couple of factors slowing my progress towards 2k. They are pictured at left. Snow and temps below freezing do not add up to a pleasant riding experience. Ruby and I will have to await fairer weather.
